  • My credit score is 678 — is that bad or good?

    Ladybug asked:

I just checked my FICO score with Equifax, and my score is 678. I’m a little confused about what that means, though. On the main display page that appeared on my computer monitor, it said my score falls into the “Good” range (but not “Very Good” or “Great”). The “Good” range, according to Equifax, was from 660-724.

However, when I printed my credit report, the word “Poor” suddenly appeared under my credit score. Same number — why did the classification suddenly change?

So which is it? Is my credit score good, fair, or poor?

  • How can I remove negative marks from my credit report?

I need advice on how to remove negative marks off of my report. Right now all of the negative marks that appear on my report are at least 5-almost 7 years old and all but one has been paid after they were sent to collections. I currently am in good standing with the current credit that I do have (1 leased car and 5 credit cards). The negative marks on my report are all from when I was younger and did not understand the effects of not paying debt. I constatently monitor my report, and for some reason, I can not boast my score up from a 592. A few months ago I was actually at a 650 or so but I had a judgement posted from a medical bill I did not pay from when I was 19. I may need to speak with a professional as eventually I would like to buy a home and do not want to have an outrageous interest rate because of my past.

  • If you report a credit card stolen, can they deny you one?

My husband has a credit card with a 0 dollar balance and a several thousand dollar limit (his parents stole his identity when he was much younger, we did not have a copy of this card). Tonight, my husband called to have a copy sent to him for our records, and to make sure his parents were removed from the card. He was able to change the address, and then the customer service rep started asking him questions about how much he made a year. He then told my husband that because he has another card maxed out (another one his parents opened when he was younger) they could not send him a replacement- due to his credit but the card is still active just “blocked.”

Does this sound strange to anyone else? We have no desire to use this card, I just want it for our records so I can set up an online account and monitor it to make sure his parents aren’t still using it.
they are not canceling. They are keeping it active, but won’t send us one.

Also, we don’t want to close it because closing it will affect his credit negatively.

  • Who should I contact if I am a victim of credit card fraud problems?

A month ago I received a call that there was some suspicious activity on my credit cards. I checked online and it said that I had to pay a bill of more than $2,000. I dealt with it and the fake credit card disappeared. Now another credit card company with which I don’t and never had an account says that I owe $6,000. Who should I contact since this is not the first time. Is there some sort of agency that would monitor all this and deal with all of this?

    Any help is appreciated

Who knows a good mortgage company to refinance with. Plus how can I shop around for a good mortgage if everyone wants to pull my credit score. My credit score is great, its just one of the reasons from my credit monitoring service states that having to many inquries on my account is the reason it is lnot as high as it could be. I have access to my credit score through trans union and I know the other two vary but why cant they just run the numbers with the one I have access to.

    John Goldman asked:

Recovering from identity theft is well discussed topic. There have been many steps taken to recover from identity thefts. Also many precautionary steps are also taken to stop identity thefts. After identity theft have also been discussed by many. But in all precautionary steps that are taken no such topic as credit monitoring services have been discussed.

Credit monitoring services prove to be useful in preventing your self from identity theft. They help you in monitoring your credit reports and notice every small change that takes place. Then you can have a rational check on your credit card report to make out fraud if any. There are cases where you come to know about the fraud when there have been many disastrous things already happened. Let us look at some brief information about credit monitoring services.

    About credit monitoring services

To keep a clean credit report has become very essential these days. Ensuring our credit report has become difficult because of frauds and identity thefts. So there is important to have a credit monitoring services. Such services are often offered by credit reporting bureaus or banks or some other companies that offer efficient services. Such services include access for your credit report and your credit scores and you always have brief information about updates regarding your credit reports. You also notifications about changes online also.

This facilitates customers because just one click and you get to know your credit score. There have always been differences between people that say that these services are fruitful and some say that they are not cost worthy. But it has been observed that credit monitoring services have provided fool proof protection to customers who have experienced it so far.

Whenever any mishap or accident happens, then first thing that you do is contact credit providers and review your credit report. But most of times it is observed that may people don’t have regular checks of their reports and this causes loss in consistency in updating of changes that occur. Instead of this, if you have credit monitoring services you get daily look at your credit scores and can check for the faults if any.

    Areas of use

Usually such systems are costly because they involve some amount of initial cost. But they have very long term profits. As the initial cost is high, some think that they are not cost worthy. But this cost counts when you experience identity theft. Usually normal person panics because he comes to know about the fraud at time when there have been many losses already occurred. But then, reviewing your credit report doesn’t prove to be that useful. So credit monitoring services are always useful. They provide various alarms and alerts wherever necessary.

These alerts help in recognizing the area of fraud and also in crime detection. When you sit for a talk with the credit card company, you should have good knowledge about your credit report so you can present your points very confidently. credit monitoring services not only helps in credit report updating but also in investigation process when identity theft is detected.

  • How To Get Your Free Credit Report

Posted on February 9th, 2010 admin No comments
    John Rasor asked:

current state of the economy, your credit report and credit score has become increasingly significant when it comes to borrowing money. Mortgage companies in particular, in an effort to reduce risk are scrutinizing credit scores to the point that getting a home loan is about as easy as building a rocket. We recently discovered that Fannie Mae has created a new set of guidelines regarding your credit score. If you have a score below 680 you will pay a higher rate on your mortgage. For the past decade they set the standard at 620. According to the credit bureaus, the average score is just below 680. What do you think is the most important factor in getting a home loan? Most people don\’t realize it, but your credit score tops the list as the most important factor. There are a few other things that you must have as well. A down payment is now mandatory. In the past you could have the seller pay all of your closing costs and get 100% financing meaning that you got in without a dime out of pocket. Not any more. You will also need verifiable income. Another big change from the days of \”stated income\” mortgages. It takes a combination of all three of these things but credit score carries the most weight. Beyond being approved for a mortgage loan, your credit score will determine the rate you get on a car loan, the interest rate you pay on credit card balances and which type of cards you qualify for. These days, it may just be the determining factor in why you don\’t get that car loan or credit card. Looking for job? Better hope you have a decent FICO score. These days potential employers are obtaining your score in an effort to predict what kind of worker you will be. Apartment managers and land lords will also use this number to gauge whether or not you will pay the rent on time. Getting your free credit report is actually quite simple. http://www.annualcreditreport.com/ will give you your report from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion once each year. You will get access to everything contained in your credit report except the credit scores. This makes the service pretty useless. There isn\’t much benefit in getting your free credit report unless it comes with your credit scores. Everyone knows that nothing in life is free. It seems that there is a catch to everything these days. Through various affiliates of the credit bureaus you are able to obtain all three of your credit scores, but in order to do so you are required to enroll for a free 30-day trial of credit monitoring service and required to give your credit card number. If you choose to opt out within the trial period, you will not be charged. Technically, you just got a free credit report with credit scores. Most of these services allow you to obtain unlimited updates to your credit scores along with identity theft protection and various other valuable features. You\’ll be able to see who has been looking at your credit as well as get contact information for all of your creditors. If you haven\’t seen your credit scores lately, take the time soon to find out what they are.

  • Credit card for computer purchase?

    Jamie R asked:

I’ve never had a credit card before and i’m well aware of the saying that if you can’t buy it now with cash then you shouldn’t use a credit card (or something like that). Anyway I’m looking to upgrade my current PC and I’m looking for the best way to do this. I’m wanting to get a new monitor, graphics card, cpu, 2 gigs more of ram, and Windows Vista all from Newegg. I would expect these upgrades to range from $1500 to $2000. I of course can’t pay for this all at once so i was hoping a credit card would be the answer. Which company is best and if I’m approved for $2000 how much should I expect the minimum monthly charges to be? Thank you.
I’m not interested in Dell or any other company. I enjoy building mine from scratch so I know that what I have is the top of the line at that given time. If you go through Dell, Gateway, or Alienware you’ll more than likely receive a medium quality computer at a higher rate than if you put it together yourself with the exact same parts. I feel it’s best to buy higher quality components at a slightly higher price than get teh cheap stuff. I’m a huge gamer and the one thing I can’t stand is for my games or graphics setting to suffer from cheap parts.
