My brother and father had the same issue! You have a different address so it should help. Also, make sure when you apply for things you put the Jr. If you are both going by that name it could be EASILY confused and if a bill collector calls or you have to call make sure you ask for the birthdate on the account and tell them their mistake.

It all sounds so cute when son has the same name as dad until things like this happen. Just be sure you always use Jr when you sign your name to anything. You’ll still probably have to explain yourself more than you should have to. Good Luck

There really isn’t anything that you can do to prevent it. The credit bureaus will still screw everything up. Really, all you can do is continue to dispute the inaccurate information.

They have to go by the social security number not name. There could be hundreds if not thousands of people with the same names. This happens though so contact the credit bureaus and make sure you get a validation and verification of the debt. Dispute it with them and let them know it is not your debt and they have 30 days to remove it or they are in violation of the FDCPA. These are federal laws which protect you from unscrupulous debt collection agencies which probably put it there deliberately. Google the agencies and see how low they go.
