k this is supposed to be really difficult cuz its a extra credit problem and i cant seem to get it. Help Plzz

adajett asked:

an electron in a computer monitor enters midway between two parallel oppositely charged plates. The initial speed of the elctron is 6.15 X 10^7 m/s and its vertical deflection is 4.70 mm
a) what is the magnitude of the elctric field between the plates
b) determine the magnitude of the surface charge density on the plates in C/m^2
can u please work me thru this or at least explain wat u did.

If it is extra credit, it won’t affect your grade for the worse if you get it wrong. Take a guess. You are the student in class. If you don’t understand it, ask your teacher after the test is turned in. You are America’s future and we don’t need our future being completely reliant on others for help and decision-making. Hope this helps! ;-)

Cannot be determined from the information given. Suppose that the deflection takes place within the plates. The deflecting force will depend on both the separation and the voltage difference between them, and the effect of the force will depend on the length of the plates. If the deflection is measured at the CRT screen, there is another variable involved: the distance between the screen and the deflection plates.
