They need a subpoena to review credit cards records. If they have an investigation already going on, they can get a subpoena to review records.

My guess is that they there is more to that story. They can’t flagged credit cards for specific purchases.

No moreso than a security camera, in my opinion. They aren’t monitoring everything a person does. If anything, they are monitoring credit card transactions as a whole looking for anything that flags then checking out those transactions.

It doesn’t impact me in any way though. I think of it like a strange guy wandering around your neighborhood. Would you rather be safe and someone calls the police and they come to check him out or would you rather just take the risk and do nothing because you don’t want to interrupt the guy’s day?

When it would bother me is if they start requiring approval and paperwork in order to purchase such those that set off a flag. Then in interferes with our freedom to live our lives. Just monitoring for flags though doesn’t bother me since if I ever get questioned I can just simply explain why I purchased what I did and move on with my day.

Yes, I have heard they monitor traffic, and have software that alerts on some things.

You have to be red flagged in their system. You have to be making a ton of odd purchases to get their attention. But no, if you are ordering crap from high-times magazine,or a small amount of a certain chemical they would not red flag you. You can also be red flagged by the FBI for renting certain library books. Once again it has to be a large number of particular kinds of books. And once you are flagged they still don’t approach you about it. They just monitor you.
