Who should I contact if I am a victim of credit card fraud problems?

CuriousGeorge asked:

A month ago I received a call that there was some suspicious activity on my credit cards. I checked online and it said that I had to pay a bill of more than $2,000. I dealt with it and the fake credit card disappeared. Now another credit card company with which I don’t and never had an account says that I owe $6,000. Who should I contact since this is not the first time. Is there some sort of agency that would monitor all this and deal with all of this?

Any help is appreciated

I’d start with the police. Credit card fraud is big business, and the police are doing what they can to catch the fraudsters. Your local police station won’t deal with it themselves, but will guide you where to go.

I hope you cancelled all your credit cards and got different ones, just the same as if you had lost your own. I am wondering if somehow there has been identity theft, where someone else has got another credit card in your name? Check it out fast. Even contacting the headquarters of this other credit card might get it stopped. They too are interested in catching thieves.

run your credit report at annualcreditreport.com.
your identity may have been stolen to commit c/c fraud.
