Poison Girl asked:

I realize that this site is the only Government-recognized entity for free credit reports but I am slightly worried as to what can happen after I submitted so much information to them. I am sure I am not the only one this has happened to…let me detail the situation. I read an article on Yahoo! about things you could get for free and one of the things listed was the aforementioned credit report from this website.

I proceeded to the site by entering it into my browser and reading the information that came up next. I saw nothing about a credit monitoring service so I believe I am safe there but what got to me was when it was time to “verify my identity”. They asked me for the numbers of my credit cards (a couple of which I am sure do not exist) and also my loan account numbers. I typed them in only to be dumbfounded when the answer was repeatedly “we cannot verify your information”. They even locked me out and said I would have to get it by mail but that’s beside the point.

What I am concerned about is the fact that I provided a lot of personal information (I do not need a lecture about how wrong this is) and I want to be sure that they won’t use it in the future for their own gains. I declined any of their efforts to e-mail me when it’s time for my next report as I will not be using their service again. I just don’t see how that information that I provided (the loan numbers and account numbers for the credit cards) can be used if they didn’t even accept them as a way to verify my identity. I hope this has not become too muddled with words.

I have read numerous accounts of people being scammed through these very services (Experian and TransUnion) so my concern is growing with each testimony I read. Any information that is provided will be appreciated, save those efforts to make me feel like I did something of inferior intelligence to even visit the website, honestly.

Randall

Julia Kabaki asked:

Basically, credit report monitoring entails keeping an eye on your credit report to identify any strange changes or activities. This is usually achieved through a company established to carry out such service. The services are provided on a subscription basis.

In summary, here is what the service offers registered consumers;

•	Regular access to their credit history
•	Constant alerts of any suspicious change to the consumer’s credit history
•	Additional services

The service helps immensely in detection of identity theft and fraud associated with credit. Typically, the credit monitoring company will alert you on essential events such as public records, credit enquiries, new account, negative info etc.

However, to make the most of credit management services, you must choose cautiously and thoroughly. An ideal credit monitoring is one that offers a full service package that comprises all the essential features need to track your credit report, while keeping an eye on suspicious activities and unauthorized access. Also, the system in place should be user-friendly to consumers; this will help in easy navigation around when accessing reports.

Check out these useful tips on how to select a choice credit monitoring service;

•	Find out if your credit file will be tracked on a daily basis by the company. Also ensure that they will send you alerts via email regarding any suspicious activity on your credit report. This way, you can handle any problems as soon as they arise.

• Another thing to look out for in a credit monitoring company is whether you will have access to view issues that are likely to impact your credit score. This way, you will learn about things that can impact your overall score. Instances of such things that can affect your overall credit score include missing a payment, and lowering your debt.

•	You also need to ascertain the effectiveness of the security features put in place by the company to protect clients from unauthorized access attempts and fraud.
Credit monitoring service is a great way to stay safe and monitor your financial activities, at the same time stay protected from unscrupulous persons.

Dolores

Sanjay Kak asked:

Report Monitoring

Keeping Track of Your Credit

Whether you are a business owner planning to seek further credit or someone who is out looking for a new job, effective credit report monitoring is highly valuable. Nowadays, lending institutions and employers are more cautious when it comes to doing business with clients and potential employees respectively. The report of an individual speaks much about his character and credit situation. The report also lists important personal details about you, such as your identification information, credit card details, as well as loan details. It indicates whether you have made timely payments or if you have defaulted on your credit payments. It even shows if you are someone who has suffered from bankruptcy or if you are already at the brink of facing a bankruptcy.

Save Yourself from Faulty Credit Reports

Some people suffer from faulty reports, and this is why monitoring your credit report should be done on a regular basis. Some incorrect information could be included in your report, and this may prove detrimental to your over-all credit score. A low credit score is not something that you would want to be reflected in your report, so taking care of inaccuracies early on is very helpful. These incorrect entries can be dealt with effectively through timely and consistent credit monitoring. Most credit reports are often precise; however getting inaccurate reports can be very inconvenient for anyone.

Achieving an Impressive Credit Score

Checking into your credit report from time to time will help you pinpoint any errors, before any erroneously reflected data will tarnish your otherwise spotless credit report and rating. While monitoring reports on credit is not an easy task to carry out, there are companies who are willing to monitor your reports for you. You just need to make sure that the credit monitoring service provider actually employs experts who can carry out their tasks in an efficient and professional manner. Credit report monitoring is an effective way to keep track of your credit and achieving an impressive credit score.

Gail

Nickolay Bokhonok asked:

If you are looking for a good credit monitoring service that will protect your credit score and report then you should make your own through research. This is needed in order to find out all pros and cons of every option you are offered.

To put it simply – you need to compare credit monitoring services before making your final decision. In this article you will find some tips that will make your evaluation easier and faster.

First of all you should find out which of the companies keeps track of credit file every day. Also, it is recommended to choose a service that will keep you updated via emails of all changes of the credit report.

Secondly, while comparing pay attention to that whether you will be able to see how various factors affect credit scores. As a matter of fact this is a really essential aspect to consider since in this way you will be able to see how exactly the overall score is influenced by missed payment or lowered debt.

The third feature to evaluate is a level of security of different monitoring services. Besides, don’t forget to take into consideration the effectiveness of tracking down fraud and unauthorized access attempts. Keep in mind that it is better to choose a service that has already proved its effective rate.

The last but not least thing that should be compared is the price. Needless to say that different companies offer their services at different prices. So, after you discover the prices you will be able to choose a service with the most suitable monthly fee.

Now you know what key aspects must be considered while comparing credit monitoring services. And don’t forget that the best company that is really worth to be dealing with will provide you with a user friendly system that will make the navigation and reading of the credits really unproblematic.

Peter

Tom Diebold asked:

Having the right credit monitoring service can be the number one, best weapon in your arsenal for improving your credit score. I mean, seriously, how amazing is it that you can pay a little bit of money every month and get emails every time something changes on your credit report?!

So, what is a credit monitoring service. What credit monitoring does is check credit reports for any added information, deleted info, or changed info. So basically, anytime something changes, you get notified. The service also typically gives you quick access to your credit report and credit history from all the credit bureaus (all three to be precise).

Also, besides the monitoring elements, you’ll get to take a look at your credit score on a continual basis. Additionally, you can subscribe to see your FICO score from the service. The FICO score is probably the most important score out there… It’s used to determine your approval for a loan, mortgage or a credit card.

After you start fixing your credit history with the credit monitoring service, you’ll be able to get new credit score updates – usually once per month. All you have to do is hit a button and it’ll recalculate it for you.

This can have a huge effect on your score because you’ll be able to instantly see whether what your doing or not is working. Occasionally, you’ll see some of the credit monitoring services offer tools that will tell you what effect on your credit certain actions you take might have on your rating. For instance, applying for a mortgage or paying off a credit card. This feature alone can be very beneficial in fixing your credit score.

When you start to dive into fixing your credit reports, you’ll quickly be able to see the differences in your three bureau’s credit reports. Since each of the credit bureaus keeps their own client database, there will most definitely be differences on all of them! Yep – your credit reports aren’t even standardized! Better yet, different banks and lenders check different reports… So if two out of your three reports are pretty clean, and your mortgage is checked against the one that’s not, you’re in a bit of hot water!

The fact that each of the different credit bureaus has separate information really reinforces the fact that you should have a copy of all three credit reports on a fairly consistent basis. Unfortunately, you won’t know which credit agency your lender will check!

A good credit monitoring service does something called alerting. Alerting is a feature that I was talking about that will email notices of any changes that should happen on your credit report. These can be good and bad alerts – but alerts none the same.

Most services allow you to monitor changes from all three credit bureaus which can be a great way to protect identity theft and watch your FICO score. Also, if you’re looking to get a mortgage loan or an automobile loan, you are going to need to know if anything changes on your credit report in advance of submitting the paperwork to the bank.

Additionally, quite a few of the credit monitoring services have Identity Theft insurance. Depending on the monitoring service, if someone steals your identity you can receive up to $25K or $50K in damage coverage. That is an awesome feature! Especially with all the unease of shopping online.

In a nutshell, a good credit monitoring service will let you watch your credit reports at the 3 major credit agencies. You can also see your individual credit score with the agencies and your overall FICO score. Then, you can set up alerts and ID theft coverage to further protect your credit history and credit score.

I’ve been using a credit monitoring service for quite some time and I can’t speak highly enough about it. I would have to say that the service alone is the reason I was able to build my (terrible) score of 610 up to a 740 – making me able to buy my first house! I can’t recommend having one enough!

Ruth

Kevin Lynch asked:

Credit monitoring is a service that you can get that will keep track of the three major credit-reporting agencies and if there are any changes in an individuals credit file, the service will notify them immediately. This monitoring allows the consumer to keep an eye on their report and rating without having to get the hard copy reports over and over again.

Monitoring services also keep the consumer up to date on new postings and any possible reporting errors. An important and valuable benefit to using a monitoring service is to help the consumer avoid becoming the victim of identity theft.

Credit monitoring can be highly effective in the early detection of identity theft or other fraudulent actions. The continuous monitoring of the information can provide significant early warnings to the consumer. Anyone who has a fear of becoming a target of identity theft for any reason should consider enrolling in a reputable monitoring program immediately so that they can get the warnings of any possible abuse.

The FTC estimates that nearly 10 million American’s are the victims of identity theft each year and that number is only going up. They also estimate that on average it takes 12 months for the victim of this theft to notice the crime. A monitoring service can alert you sooner before the problems become overwhelming. A credit monitoring service cannot prevent the crime but it can definitely reduce its impact.

One concern that comes up for people when they are thinking about employing a monitoring service is the amount of inquiries that will show on their report if they are continuously monitoring their information. The fact is that only the inquiries from a lender or creditor affect your score and a consumer can check his or her score as often as they wish with no penalty.

Another concern is the cost of the service. There are many different companies out there that offer credit monitoring services and they all offer various services at various prices ranging from about $4.95 a month for minimal service to about $14.95 a month or more for the highest level of services. Most will include ID theft reimbursement coverage.

Deciding on which service to use may be the most difficult decision to make when it comes to monitoring services. The more frequently a service is willing to contact you the better it will be for you. Some services will offer additional benefits like credit scores, debt analysis and fraud alert to suit a number of needs and requirements for just about any consumer.

A credit monitoring service may be a worthwhile investment for you if you are concerned with knowing about your credit and credit scores or if you feel it may be possible that you could become the victim of identity theft.

Donald

ME asked:

I will pay someone really good money….secured via paypal….to put me in contact with an insider at Experian. I have had the craziest dilemma. My credit file has been mixed with someone else’s. I need to get it straightened out. My credit file has been locked because of it, I think so I can’ even get a copy of my credit file. I have called (certifiably impossible to reach someone, there is no way around the automated system without a copy of your credit report), written on numerous occasion (to the Allen, TX center….which I only live about 30 mins from…and the Irvine, CA corporate headquarters , and managed to find an experian fax machine and I faxed my request over to them. I have included my social security card, driver’s license, passport, birth certificate, lease, electric bill, telephone bill, and cable bill, and 2 denial letters! I can’t get a copy from freecreditreport.com, annualcreditreport.com, or any credit monitoring service even after faxing this documentation to them. All because of Experian. I am desperate need to buy a car and I know I have great credit. I am dumbfounded! Please someone help me!!! ALL I WANT IS A COPY OF MY CREDIT REPORT! Has anyone else had this much trouble?!

Bonnie

Nickolay Bokhonok asked:

Credit monitoring service reviews outline the main features of services you are available to choose from and that is the reason why they are very helpful when you are going to make your decision.

It should be started with the fact that all credit monitoring services available on the market today might seem the same for you and sometimes it might be a bit difficult to see those slight differences. In this article you will find out the main aspects that are involved in such kind of reviews and therefore it will be easier for you to find out things that services differ about.

It goes without saying that the access to reports and credit scores is a really crucial characteristic and that’s why it is always involved in the reviews. In fact, tracking the scores will provide a clear indication of when the person’s financial goal is reached.

Credit alert is the other essential aspect that should be taken into consideration. Simply speaking you will be notified concerning any changes to your credit. Also, if the case is that you are improving your credit, you will be able to check what have been already enhanced, verified or removed by creditors. It should be also pointed out that credit monitoring services provide regular updates on identity theft. This information can be received via e-mails or text messages to cell phones. As you understand, the ability to avoid the problem will save a lot of time and cash.

While looking through a review you should pay attention to “Credit Reports Monitored” section because there you will find out which of the companies offers all 3 bureaus’ reports. As a matter of fact this is one of the key features to consider while choosing a good credit monitoring service.

The other information that is typically provided by credit monitoring service reviews involves:

• Free Trial;
• Monthly Fee;
• Rating;
• Free Credit Scores;
• ID Theft Insurance/Guarantee;
• Bottom Line.

To conclude it all there is a need to underline that using credit monitoring service reviews will help you to choose a service that will deal with the headaches involved with identity theft damage and other issues.

Alma

Reggie asked:

I have a credit monitoring service on my credit and found out I had a credit inquiry to open a utility account under my name. The company told me that whoever did this needed my SSN in order to open the account. I would like to believe that she would not do anything this low but can a spouse open an account in your name? (we are currently in the process of a divorce).
I am going to place a fraud alert and credit freeze on my credit immediately but the account was created in a city about a 45min. drive from me and I’d of course would love to find out who it is.

Tamara
